Born and raised in the beautiful city of York, I have been influenced and inspired by my city’s heritage, culture and home-grown brands. I believe story-telling is a huge part of every aspect of a brand, whether it’s through graphics, written language or even campaign reporting, there is always a fun story to tell, to bring your work to life.
As a youngster, I was an introverted, very tall girl who hated standing out (head and shoulders) above my peers. I liked to keep my head down and would spend hours quietly doodling in sketch books and writing silly poems to entertain my friends.
I started to come out of my shell after those awkward secondary school years, and explored my creative side by doing an art foundation course at York College. I then went onto a 4 year sandwich course studying Product Design. During my work placement year I got a real taste for the consumer goods industry and I loved it!
Following university, I spent over 17 years managing brands and my experiences have been incredibly varied. I’ve presented global brands to global retailers within the health and beauty sector. Challenged myself by creating, sourcing and delivering goods to a high standard and to critical sales deadlines. Demonstrated to brand owners that I understood their brandsand would represent them properly to win licensing contracts.
I honed my campaign management skills and developed effective national and international marketing strategies to excite current and open up brand new customers. I negotiated great deals on advertising and got savvy with my marketing budget, making the most of the internal resources at my finger tips. I learnt that fantastic marketing didn’t need big budgets and being Yorkshire meant I challenged every penny!
My approach has always been to challenge what has historically been done and find new ways to excite and delight. I like to do things a little bit different and push the boundaries on what has been done previously. I find it incredibly rewarding to exceed expectations and bring a smile to a client’s face.
In 2020 Yorkshire Brand Stories was born to enable me to work with local brands I felt passionate about and make a difference within my community. I love working with people who are really passionate about their brand and I get a buzz from helping them tell their story.
Before setting up my own business, I’d spent the past 14 years building my brand and marketing expertise. I’d developed own brand product ranges for high street retailer Boots, ran a global toiletries business for a London based salon and launched a full product range of lash extensions!
H&A are the UK’s number 1 supplier of children’s & teen licensed personal care products. They supply some of the largest retailersin the UK including Boots, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Primark.
My main roles included managing licensing contracts, Boots Christmas gifts and own-brand development. I developed a team of Product Managers and Graphic Designers, as well as scoping out and leading on new business ventures.
Through creative and commercially viable design solutions, I helped develop the relationship with Boots on their own brand gift range ‘Glitter Babes’ and other licensed products.
This included the brand strategy for Glitter Babes, managing the creation of brand values, graphics and new product ranges. In addition to this, I was also responsible for commercial negotiation, technical and internal sign-off at Boots and ensuring that products were available for the Christmas launch.
I was a key player in securing H&A’s first ever Disney license, Finding Nemo. Following this, I then went onto successfully pitch and secure some of the biggest brands in the Disney portfolio including Disney Princess, Minnie Mouse, Frozen and Marvel’s Spiderman.
Daniel Galvin Jr. International trades and manufactures organic & vegan hair and beauty products in the UK, US and Australia. Based in Knightsbridge, London, Daniel Galvin Jr. is also a highly regarded salon, where Daniel tends to the tresses of celebrities and members of the royal family.
During my time with Daniel I managed a team of 4, overseeing all aspects of the business including brand values, sales, marketing, PR, product development, suppliers, logistics, finance & legal. I was responsible for product sourcing, logistics and sales in the UK, US and Australia. It was a very steep learning curve, but this role really taught me that you can work anything out for yourself!
Working B2B and B2C, Sweet Squared distribute premium products and training to over 25,000 professionals in the hair and beauty sector. Sweet Squared launched two own brands which I was solely responsible for driving sales through digital, print and direct mail campaigns.
I developed and launched the ‘LASHUS’ lash extensions product range and education programme. This included the creation of brand values, campaign assets and educational materials as well as managing the development and manufacturing of product offer in time for the launch event.
Holly has a wealth of experience in bringing new products to market, across the entire process. From proposition development, procurement, and packaging to research, brand development and campaign strategy. Her ability to pivot from one task to the next is highly valuable, reprioritising and communicating effectively throughout. Plus, she’s a pleasure to work with.
